Sila
Sila is a video-based project that delves into the
psychological space in which I have found myself over the past few years, one that
has intensified during the pandemic. I find myself lost, longing for quiet and
calm in the chaos that inhabits my mind.
The
video was made with black-and-white still images, produced every day, mostly
between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. in New York, starting March 15, 2020, during
the COVID-19 pandemic.
With
a soundtrack that draws on traditional storytelling, such as drum dancing from East
Greenland and throat singing from Nunavut, this project explores the relativity
of the perception of reality.
Sila is a Pan-Inuit word with a variety of meanings,
including consciousness, the universe, the world, the weather, the air, and the
space outside.
