Coronavirus Walkabout

I began this work on March 13, 2020, the day New York City went into lockdown, and photographed through the end of May. I walked for miles every day, spending hours exploring the boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, photographing hospital workers, doctors, police officers, and other New Yorkers, each experiencing this period of isolation in their own way. I also photographed the daily 7:00 p.m. expression of gratitude, when the city cheered its healthcare and frontline workers, a communal celebration in the face of adversity.
